The City of McAllen is taking a bold step forward in the pursuit of environmental education and conservation with the groundbreaking on the Center for Urban Ecology at Quinta Mazatlán. This $51.9 million project will occupy 14 acres and be completed within 24 months, making it one of its kind in Texas.
McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos believes that this venture will bring many positive changes to both students and residents alike, as they will have access to classrooms where guest lectures can take place as well as dedicated labs for different age groups to conduct real-world experiments related to understanding, learning about, and protecting our environment better.
City leaders are also hoping that this center becomes a nationally recognized destination which draws visitors from all over Texas along with Northern Mexico so that people can experience first hand what environmental education has achieved here in McAllen through CUE's efforts! The Center for Urban Ecology promises an enriching experience which furthers knowledge on how we should protect our planet while simultaneously providing entertainment value too!
